The coal-black mare made her way into the red canyons, her three limbs causing her to have a jerking, limping gait. Ears were back, and teeth were gnashed as she carefully picked her way over the rocks and cliffs, wondering why she ever bothered coming here. I'll run away the first chance I get, I swear! Her heat made her even more pessimistic than usual, light blonder banner pressed to her rear with the strength of a vice grip.

Another curse slipped from Dawn Spirits' muzzle as she tripped slightly on another sliding rock. A normal horse would have no trouble here, but for her it was tiring just to get around. Ice blue eyes were half closed, partly from sleepiness and partly from her attitude. Where's Pluto, anyway? He started leading me here then vanished. Punk. The black mare stopped by a twisted tree and leaned against it, taking a breather, blonde forelock falling in her face freely. Surely he won't care... just going to rest my eyes... Before long, the contrasted mare had fallen asleep, the tree creaking a little as her full weight was gently pushed against it.

Visions of times past drifted like haze through her mind, calm and peaceful and without any real pattern. A moment as a foal here, grazing with a herd there, all slipping softly past each other like silk. After a while, though the dreams started shifting into the less favored parts of her life: her life as a carthorse, losing her left foreleg, becoming a slave...
With a jolt she awoke and shook herself, hearing someone talking to her, someone with a somewhat kind voice.

With a jump Dawn Spirits saw it was Pluto, ears flipping first forwards then backwards. She wasn't sure how to act; was he pretending to be nice or was he genuine? It was hard to tell with him, especially since the pitch black mare barely trusted anybody anymore.

After a moment, the fae nodded, facing the hill in front of her and heading for it, nerves steeled to not give up. On the other side was a restful night, and her cat nap had given her some more energy. If things stay as they are, I might not have anything to worry about... except this darn rocks. Another pebble went skipping down the slope as Dawn Spirits started her climb, eyes against half closed and focused on her hooves.

Ice colored eyes were focused on the path ahead stubbornly as the mare made her way with her three good legs. Oh how she wished that she hadn't lost the one foreleg, it was days like this that made that wish all the more fervent. What's done is done, though, nobody has a portal to go back and change anything... She stopped when she heard Pluto's voice, harks spinning to listen.

Nodding slightly, Dawn Spirits turned and carefully made her way back down the slope, following the black and white stallion through a hidden shortcut between the hills. He's actually being nice, interesting. A warning thought forced her to keep her guard up when she remembered the last time she trusted a stallion.

Seeing the stalls up ahead, the black mare stopped where she was a few lengths from the barn, studying the building from behind her light forelock. Once I go in, there's no going back. Once I go in, it's set in stone; I will be a slave. Part of her wanted to just go in and sleep, but the other part, the independent side of her, refused. Without a word, Dawn Spirits backed up a few steps and looked around for a way out of the lands, but she was new here and didn't know where a runaway could head anyway. Randomly picking a direction, she walked towards a group of trees, knowing that he could catch her instantly, but her spirit wanted to think that he couldn't.

The dark mare kept plodding towards the trees at her relatively slow rate, eyes searching far ahead for any clue as to where she should go. If there's a hill, perhaps I could outrun him? She snorted lowly to herself; any horse with four good legs can outrun a horse with three, any time. It was that detail that bothered her the most.

She didn't stop when he caught up to her, Dawn Spirits had expected that he would say something. He would have to be a really stupid stallion otherwise to think she wasn't trying to escape. Teeth were bared as he sneered at her, talking to her like she didn't know what she was doing. He's probably never had someone defy him before, not this peacefully at least. He'll try to regain authority by being intimidating. The dark mare kept walking but took her time in replying, keeping her eyes on the trees.

"I don't think, I know. I know I am walking towards those trees. I know I am not owned by anybody, least of all you. And I know that I want to stay outside and stargaze. Got a problem with that?"

The cautious part of her mind told her to shut her mouth and obey, reminding her that the last time she rebelled she got hurt, but the bold, crazy side of her personality was waking up; already her eyes were showing their whites and her teeth gnashing and baring themselves. It was though someone had flipped a coin from yin to yang.

With the tiniest of dark smiles, the soul had seen she had hit the stallion, and quite hard too. The smile quickly extended into a snarl as he came flying at her, hooves raking the air and teeth striking like a snake. The dark mare shuffled backwards as fast as she could to get out of the way, but a few times his hooves struck her bad foreleg or her chest, one clipping her ear. She fired back with some quick bites like a cobra, but only when she could avoid one of his strikes. Without warning, one hoof whacked her across the jaw, slicing open her cheek and causing her to lose her balance. Frozen temporarily in shock, the next hit sent her down to the ground.

The wind was knocked from her lungs as the heavy mare hit the ground, skull throbbing, limbs feeling far too dense to move. A few kicks hit across her black pelt, making her cringe. I told you to shut your mouth. The little voice in her head piped up smugly, making her sigh. "Stop attacking me you jerk," Dawn Spirits hissed between clenched teeth. Being beat down to the ground should have done something other than sharpen her tongue, but then again this was that flip side of her personality that didn't know when to stop.

She didn't get a reply, which made the situation a lot scarier. He wasn't showing signs of stopping, the brute seemed to have been driven into quite the rage. In the back of her mind Dawn Spirits wondered if she was the first, or the last, to see this. A kick to her ribs brought her mind back to focus as she let out a small eek! kind of noise, rolling over just in time to avoid getting stomped on by all the hundreds of pounds of equine, though a hoof's edge did draw scratches down her back.

She flinched as jaws bit into her spine, widening the scratches into gashes, and now that she was on her stomach the dark mare quickly threw herself to her feet, wobbling and taking a few precarious steps to right herself. Ice blue eyes stared at the stallion now; the yin and yang in her was quieting down to somewhere inbetween the two extremes, nostrils flaring as she caught her breath. "Pluto are you alright?" It was a stupid question, of course he wasn't alright, he was insane, just like all the other herbivores that were beating on each other. Even so she wondered if he even realized the rage he was in, legs tensed to take any more blows or deliver some of her own.

The dark mare pinned her ears back uncertainly when he didn't reply; all she got to pass for a response was a chilling death glare. Eyeing him warily, the mountain horse backed away slowly, towards the tree line, her eyes never straying from the black and white stallion. "I better leave..." she said slowly, pelt glistening a little bit from the wounds that were scattered along her back and sides. I'm not sure what I've unlocked here, but it's definately making me wish I hadn't found the key. Dawn Spirits kept backing up until one back leg felt only air; she was at the end of the rocky hill, and it fell away for a few feet behind her. There was little chance she could navigate that backwards, with three legs, all while keeping tabs on Pluto. The dark mare frowned a bit nervously, watching the vanner for signs of whether his rage had ended or not.
